Salted Caramel Apple Crumble

Salted Caramel Apple Crumble

This recipe uses the rich, savory notes of your "Side Piece" Seasoning to create an unexpectedly deep, salted caramel flavor that perfectly complements sweet baked apples.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Bake Time: 40 minutes
Yields: 6–8 servings

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling

  • 8 medium Apples (e.g., Honeycrisp, Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced

  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar

  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice

For the Salted Caramel

  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar

  • ¼ cup Water

  • ½ cup Heavy Cream, warmed

  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

  • 1 teaspoon Paramour Spice Co. "Side Piece" Seasoning

For the Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour

  • ½ cup Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats

  • ½ cup Packed Brown Sugar

  • ½ cup (1 stick) Cold Unsalted Butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss gently and pour into a 9-inch baking dish.

  2. Make the Salted Caramel: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Cook over medium-high heat without stirring until the mixture turns a rich amber color (about 5-8 minutes).

  3. Finish the Caramel: Remove the pan from the heat. Carefully whisk in the warm heavy cream (it will bubble vigorously). Stir in the butter until melted. Finally, stir in the "Side Piece" Seasoning until fully incorporated.

  4. Assemble: Pour about half of the prepared "Side Piece" Salted Caramel over the apple mixture in the baking dish. Toss lightly to coat. Reserve the remaining caramel for serving.

  5. Make the Topping: In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, and brown sugar. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  6. Bake: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.

  7. Serve: Let the crumble cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Drizzle the reserved "Side Piece" Salted Caramel over each serving, paired perhaps with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
