Savory Buttermilk Biscuits with Honey Butter

Savory Buttermilk Biscuits with Honey Butter

This recipe uses the "Side Piece" Seasoning to elevate a simple biscuit recipe, turning it into a flaky, savory accompaniment perfect for dinner, brunch, or pairing with soup.

Ingredients

  • For the Biscuits:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour

    • 1 tbsp baking powder

    • 1 tsp salt

    • 1 tbsp Paramour Spice Co. "Side Piece" Seasoning

    • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

    • ¾ cup cold buttermilk (plus 1 tbsp for brushing)

  • For the Honey Butter:

    • ¼ cup (½ stick) softened unsalted butter

    • 2 tbsp honey

    • A pinch of "Sweet Seduction" Dessert Topper (optional, for flavor contrast)

Instructions

  1. Prep Dry Ingredients: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and "Side Piece" Seasoning.

  2. Cut in Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.

  3. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the cold buttermilk all at once. Stir gently with a fork just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.

  4. Fold and Cut: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently fold the dough over onto itself 4–5 times (this creates the flaky layers). Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a 2.5-inch biscuit cutter (or a glass rim) to cut out biscuits. Re-form scraps once and cut any remaining biscuits.

  5. Bake: Place the biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring the sides are lightly touching (this helps them rise straight). Brush the tops with the extra tablespoon of buttermilk.

  6. Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and well-risen.

  7. Make Honey Butter: While the biscuits bake, mix the softened butter, honey, and a pinch of the sweet topper (if using) until smooth and creamy.

  8. Serve: Serve the biscuits immediately, split open and generously slathered with the Honey Butter.
